When we looked back at our data recently, one thing stood out: YouTube was doing more for Creator Science than we'd given it credit for. Our best stretch was when the channel was run by someone who thought like a producer, and when we stopped posting consistently, we felt it across the whole business.

So we're bringing the channel back, and we're looking for an editor to help drive it.

If you watch the show, you know the format: long-form remote interviews between Jay and a guest, recorded in Riverside. Our best videos introduce creators with surprising stories and show how they actually do what they do. Here's the channel: https://www.youtube.com/@jay

What you'd be doing

Mostly, you'll edit full podcast episodes. You'll get the Riverside footage of Jay and the guest, plus a scripted intro, outro, and any sponsor reads to fit in. We're starting with one video a month. Now and then, it might be something different, like a more casual solo video from Jay, or turning a great episode from our audio archive into a video.

Our goal is to stand out with stories you can’t hear anywhere else. Your job is to find the best parts of every conversation and use the edit to sharpen it (not bury it in effects). We'd love your take on every episode: what's the angle, what's the title, and how do we pay it off fast?

Who we're looking for

Honestly? Someone hungry to prove themselves. Maybe you're an editor who wants to grow into a producer, or you want a channel where your ideas actually get used. We don't want someone who says "send me the footage." We want someone who says "here's what we should try next."

You know how to keep a long conversation engaging, and you get the vibe of the show. You’re somebody who wants everything you make to get a little better every time. You’re proactive in suggesting opportunities for improvements, and look at making videos as an art form (not just a task to complete).

You're reliable: when you commit to a deadline, you hit it, and if something changes, you tell us early. You work well async with Anna and Jay and take feedback in stride. To show us you read this far, include your favorite emoji in the name field of your application.

Where this could go

This starts with editing, but we see it growing. That could mean helping choose which episodes go on YouTube, shaping the angle before we record, working with our thumbnail designer, and eventually owning more of the channel.

You'd also get a front-row seat to how a creator business runs, working directly with Jay.

The details

Freelance and remote, paid per video: $500–800 per video, depending on experience.
